PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say an elderly woman and her adult son found dead in their Michigan home in January after neighbors noticed mail piling up on the porch died of natural causes.

Port Huron police Capt. Joe Platzer tells the Times Herald for a story published Wednesday it wasn’t known how long 91-year-old Doris Mae Lewis and 65-year-old Kenneth Leroy Lewis were dead before they were found.

Authorities previously said there were no outward signs of trauma on the bodies and they were waiting for toxicology tests before determining cause of death.

Authorities responded after neighbors reported they’d noticed signs of inactivity at the home, including mail piling up. Police have said that the last newspaper found at the home about 55 miles (89 kilometers) northeast of Detroit was dated Dec. 24.
