SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A 46-year-old Utah man who has spent half his life in prison for a 1994 murder has been granted parole.

The Deseret News reports Travis Telford will be released from prison on June 26.

Telford was 23 when he fatally shot 20-year-old Troy Weston at Willard Bay for allegedly selling him and an acquaintance diluted drugs.

The Board of Pardons and Parole ordered him to continue substance abuse and mental health treatment as a condition of his release.

Telford said at the parole hearing earlier this month that he welcomed that restriction. He admitted it will be a challenge adapting to all the changes in the world since he was incarcerated.

He said that he’s been locked up so long that “it blows people away” to learn that he’s never been on the internet.
