Authorities say suspect has been shot and wounded after allegedly assaulting a police officer in west Phoenix
PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a suspect has been shot and wounded after allegedly assaulting a police officer in west Phoenix.
Police say officers responded to a home late Saturday after a family member reported a 49-year-old man was on drugs and possibly hallucinating.
When officers arrived at the neighborhood, it was determined that no crime had been committed and the man assured police he would stay inside his home.
Hours later, police received a second call from the same family member saying the suspect was carrying a staple gun and knife and was roaming around the neighborhood.
When officers got out of their patrol car, the man reportedly grabbed a 24-year-old female officer, raised a knife and attacked her.
Police then shot and wounded him. His name hasn’t been released.
