TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey’s attorney general is trimming the ongoing state legal costs associated with the 2013 George Washington Bridge lane closure scandal.
A spokesman for Attorney General Gurbir Grewal says the state’s top law enforcement official was “stunned” to learn the state was paying about $64,000 a month to the firm Stroz Friedberg for data retention.
The state is instead going with RVM Enterprises, with an upfront cost of $9,300 and monthly fees of $2,300.
Two former allies of former Gov. Chris Christie are appealing convictions in the politically motivated lane-closure scheme. Christie wasn’t charged and denied wrongdoing.
The Associated Press reported last week that the taxpayer tab has topped $15 million, including more than $60,000 this year to Stroz Friedberg.
