SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Firefighters have evacuated buildings in Savannah’s downtown area after construction crews reportedly hit a gas line.

News outlets report the Wednesday leak forced the evacuation of all buildings on Bull Street in a square bound by 36th Street, Whitaker Street, 38th street and Drayton Street. Evacuees were sent to Thomas Square Park and the Covenant Church.

The Savannah Morning News reports fire crews were allowing pedestrians back into the area around 3 p.m.
