MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia man is accused of trying to kidnap a child from a mall bathroom at knifepoint, and police are searching for a possible accomplice.

News outlets report that 26-year-old Danzell Mitchell has been charged with aggravated assault and attempted kidnapping. The reports don’t say if Mitchell has a lawyer.

The reports quote Cobb Police Deputy Chief Stuart VanHoozer as saying the 11-year-old girl entered the bathroom Tuesday evening while her father waited outside. The girl told investigators that Mitchell grabbed her and held her at knifepoint.

VanHoozer said at a news conference Wednesday that the girl escaped and told her father, who then tackled Mitchell and held him down with help from bystanders. Authorities say Mitchell may have been working with a woman who left the scene before law enforcement arrived.
