TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a Tucson man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 71-year-old bicyclist in a DUI-related crash in Sierra Vista.
Tucson police say 31-year-old Jared McDonald is being held on suspicion of second-degree murder for allegedly striking and killing the bicyclist Tuesday.
They say David Alva of Hereford was riding on the shoulder of Buffalo Soldier Trail when McDonald’s vehicle left the road and allegedly struck him.
Alva was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police investigators suspect that McDonald was driving impaired.
McDonald was booked into the Cochise County jail on suspicion of second-degree murder, negligent homicide, manslaughter, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence and DUI-drugs.
It was unclear Wednesday if McDonald has legal representation yet.
