Newly-elected congresswoman Veronica Escobar endorsed a potential 2020 run for outgoing Rep. Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke on Wednesday.

“He should run — I would love to see that happen,” the Texas Democrat told The HillTV, “He is still my congressman and I have a lot of love for him.”

Ms. Escobar is one of the new Democrats to ride a progressive wave to Capitol Hill, easily securing Mr. O’Rourke’s current seat.

Mr. O’Rourke lost his Senate race to incumbent Republican Sen. Ted Cruz.

His campaign captured a surge of progressive enthusiasm, which is why some have already started floating his name as a potential 2020 Democratic challenger. However, before the midterm election, he told reporters that he was definitively not running in the next presidential race.
