TORRINGTON, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut woman has pleaded guilty to causing a serious accident in October that killed a 33-year-old mother and injured five others.
The Republican-American reports 59-year-old Elizabeth Waterbury pleaded guilty Tuesday in Torrington Superior Court to manslaughter, assault with a motor vehicle and drunken driving.
Waterbury said she wanted to avoid trial, citing the victims.
Authorities say a four-month investigation found that Waterbury drove into oncoming traffic along state Route 63 in Litchfield and crashed into a line of 18 motorcycle riders.
Aislinn Kern was killed. Another motorcyclist lost part of his leg.
Testing found evidence of two prescription drugs in Waterbury’s system. She reportedly had a blood-alcohol level of .09, slightly above the legal limit to drive.
Waterbury will be sentenced to nine years in prison next year.
