Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Wednesday that an unauthorized person was behind a retweet from his verified account that criticized General Motors.

“A retweet was posted last night on @stevenmnuchin1 by someone other than the Secretary or an individual with authorized access to his account. As such, the retweet is being deleted,” Mr. Mnuchin’s account tweeted Wednesday morning.

The retweet was of a post by an account called @The_Trump_Train that read: “If GM doesn’t want to keep their jobs in the United States, they should pay back the $11.2 billion bailout that was funded by the American taxpayer.”

President Trump retweeted the same post Wednesday morning.

A spokesman for Mr. Mnuchin told The Hill that the Treasury is looking into whether the secretary’s account was breached from outside the department. A Treasury spokesman told Bloomberg that the credentials to Mr. Mnuchin’s account would be reset.
