Greek champion AEK Athens docked 3 points for fan violence

ATHENS, Greece (AP) - Defending Greek champion AEK Athens has been docked three points after losing its appeal against punishment for fan violence at a recent match.

Greek soccer organizers also said Friday the club was fined 73,250 euros ($85,000) and ordered to play two home games behind closed doors.

In the Oct. 7 game, AEK fans clashed with police outside the Olympic Stadium. Police fired tear gas at the supporters who hurled rocks and petrol bombs during half-time clashes. The game ended 1-1.

The points penalty means AEK drops from third place to sixth.

PAOK Thessaloniki leads the standings with 16 points, level with Atromitos. Olympiakos follows with 13 points.
