SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Organizers of the popular First Fridays street festival in Oakland have canceled the event for November because of after-hours violence that followed the October event.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that organizers are tentatively planning to resume the festival in December after conducting a review of safety policies and procedures.
The once-a-month festival runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Oakland, often attracting thousands of people.
Police say several hours after the Oct. 5 event ended, two men had a dispute that prompted both to fire guns at each other. Both men were arrested and treated at a hospital, and police later said four others had also been shot.
None of the injuries were fatal.
