RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Officials have announced funeral arrangements for a North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper who was shot and killed during a traffic stop.
The N.C. Department of Public Safety said services for Trooper Kevin Conner are scheduled for Sunday at 4 p.m. at South Columbus High School in Tabor City. An outdoor ceremony will be held adjacent to the school’s auditorium in lieu of a public graveside memorial.
A private graveside memorial service will be held for family and close friends following the funeral.
Conner stopped a pickup truck Wednesday on suspicion of speeding on a highway in rural Columbus County southwest of Whiteville. Patrol First Sgt. Michael Baker said the driver shot Conner as he approached.
The patrol said 20-year-old Raheem Cole Dashanell Davis of Chadbourn is charged with first-degree murder.
