MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire is getting $800,000 in trauma services to help children exposed to substance abuse.
The state’s Democratic Congressional delegation announced the money would come from the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance and go to the city of Manchester. The grant will support the police department’s Adverse Childhood Experiences Response Team Enhancement Project, which provides services to children exposed to trauma, including substance use, domestic violence and sexual assault.
The program consists of a support network that includes police officers, a crisis advocate and a community health worker. Together, they provide security and support to the victims of childhood trauma.
New Hampshire has been hard hit by the opioid crisis, with 483 people losing their lives to drug-related overdoses in 2017.
