BRYANT, Ala. (AP) - Two people face animal cruelty charges after Alabama authorities found dogs starving on their property.
WHNT-TV reports Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Animal Enforcement Deputy Tony Wilbanks responded to an anonymous tip about a mistreated dog at a home near Bryant.
Wilbanks says the caller believed the dog was a Doberman, but Wilbanks says when he saw the animal, it was so underfed and malnourished that it was basically skin over a skeleton. The dog should have weighed about 70 pounds, but weighed in at 37 pounds. A smaller malnourished dog was also found at the home.
Wilbanks says Helena Moses and Joseph Fisher, both 27, were arrested Wednesday. Both are free after posting $300 bonds.
The larger dog is in foster care; the smaller dog is at a shelter.
