ARLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A new animal shelter is preparing to open in Vermont after months of construction on the $3.5 million project.
The Bennington Banner reports the new Second Chance Animal Shelter will open its doors in Arlington Oct. 30.
Center Executive Director Cathi Comar says the 10,700-square-foot building is about 57 percent larger than the old location in Shaftsbury, and the center will offer veterinary care and adoption services.
The center purchased the site, which was formerly a motel, in 2015. Grants and donations covered the majority of the cost at $2.5 million.
The building includes a new air system to reduce the spread of disease, an outdoor patio for cats and an expanded surgical suite.
Board of Trustees President Jim Evans says the new building is a dream “turned into reality.”
