CLEVELAND (AP) - A man found guilty of fatally stabbing and shooting his future mother-in-law five days before he was supposed to marry her daughter has been sentenced in Ohio to life in prison with no chance of parole for at least 33 years.

A judge on Monday sentenced 21-year-old Jeffrey Scullin Jr. in Melinda Pleskovic’s death. Scullin earlier pleaded no contest to charges including aggravated murder in the 2017 slaying.

A message seeking comment was left at the office of Scullin’s attorney, Joseph Patituce. Patituce said after the no-contest plea that Scullin maintains his innocence.

Authorities say Scullin had a history of disagreements with Pleskovic and allegedly planned the attack for weeks.

The schoolteacher was killed at her home in the Cleveland suburb of Strongsville where Scullin lived with the family.
