PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A former Philadelphia police officer whose vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian while he was off-duty last year has pleaded guilty to a felony vehicular homicide charge and a misdemeanor count of involuntary manslaughter.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that 25-year-old Adam Soto will be sentenced Jan. 11.
Authorities alleged that Soto, who had been on the force for three years, was driving at high speed in January 2017 when he hit 50-year-old Daniel Dimitri, who was reportedly running across the street.
Soto was fired after his April 2017 arrest. Defense attorney Fortunato Perri Jr. said his client has accepted responsibility for what he called “this sad and tragic result.” Another officer accused of reckless driving “at the same time and in the same direction” wasn’t charged but was also fired.
