MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A Tennessee man has admitted to raping three women in cases that went unsolved for several years as rape kits that held identifying DNA went unprocessed.

News outlets reported Friday that Patrick Marshall pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated rape and was sentenced to 18 years, 19 years and 25 years in prison. The sentences will be served concurrently with no parole.

Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich says the cases involved early morning break-ins at knifepoint. In 2000, Marshall raped a 22-year-old woman. Prosecutors say he raped a 19-year-old woman and a 32-year-old woman in 2002.

Rape kits were collected after the assaults, but Marshall wasn’t identified until 2015. Since 2013, police have been whittling away at thousands of unprocessed rape kits collected by Memphis since the 1980s.
