CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - The federal government has awarded New Hampshire the first installment of $45.8 million in grants to combat the opioid crisis.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration on Wednesday awarded the state $22.98 million, and the state health department will ask lawmakers on Friday for permission to accept and spend the money.
New Hampshire officials want to create a regional hub system to help people struggling with addiction move along a pathway from recovery to self-sufficiency. The goal is to create a new system of care that streamlines and coordinates services.
Nine hubs would be set up around the state to direct individuals to a range of services, and the state would collect data to determine the effectiveness of those programs.
