Juanita Broaddrick had a comeback for Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff after he warned that Republicans should not put “someone who may have committed attempted rape” on the Supreme Court.
“I got one better than that, Shifty,” said Ms. Broaddrick in a Friday tweet. “[Your] party elected a sexual predator/rapist as President & when the evidence was put under their nose, they refused to read it.”
She referred to the 1999 impeachment hearings against President Bill Clinton that ended with all Senate Democrats — including Sens. Dick Durbin, Dianne Feinstein and Patty Murray — siding with the Democratic president, despite multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.
Ms. Broaddrick said Senate Democrats refused to read her deposition in which she accused Mr. Clinton of raping her in a Little Rock hotel room during his 1978 campaign for Arkansas governor, an allegation which he has denied.
In a Thursday interview, Mr. Schiff said that Republicans “may have a candidate who has committed attempted rape,” referring to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused by a California woman of trying to force himself on her when they were in high school.
Mr. Schiff called for an FBI investigation into the 36-year-old allegations, which came to light Sept. 12, shortly after the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings ended but before the vote originally slated for Sept. 20, which has been delayed.
“The Senate shouldn’t simply rely on hearing two conflicting accounts and decide, ‘Well, we’re okay with not knowing. We’re okay with the fact that we might be putting someone who committed attempted rape on the Supreme Court of the United States,’” said Mr. Schiff on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
Mr. Kavanaugh “categorically and unequivocally” denied the allegation, and two male classmates who allegedly attended the party in the early 1980s have said they were not there and were unaware of any incident.
After Ms. Feinstein asked Friday why Republicans were “resisting an investigation,” Ms. Broaddrick fired back by calling her a “hypocrite.”
Ms. Feinstein “refused to read my deposition for the independent counsel, along with ALL Democrats. Your vote had already been decided before testimony. SHAME ON YOU,” she tweeted.
