LANDOVER — The Redskins are two quarters of football away from a major upset.
Washington leads the Green Bay Packers 28-10 at halftime Sunday — with both the offense and the defense clicking.
Alex Smith has 214 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, while running back Adrian Peterson has rushed for 87 yards on 12 carries for two touchdowns.
The Redskins have had no shortage of big plays — including a 46-yard bomb from Smith to Paul Richardson for the game’s first score. Peterson also ripped off a 41-yard later on.
Washington’s defense has sacked quarterback Aaron Rodgers twice and the Packers are just 2-of-6 on third down. The Packers’ only touchdown came on a giant defensive miscue when Packers wide receiver Geronimo Allison blew by defensive backs Josh Norman and D.J. Swearinger for a 64-yard score.
But the Redskins responded with a five-play, 74-yard drive that resulted in a 2-yard touchdown from Peterson.
For a team that struggled so much last week against the Indianapolis Colts, the Redskins have responded thoroughly — at least so far.
