President Trump said Wednesday that “all options are on the table” for U.S. to help the people of Venezuela.

He said the options include “the strong ones and the less than strong ones — and you know what I mean by strong.”

The Trump administration has ratcheted up sanctions on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro’s socialist government that has stifled political opponents and presided over a dramatic economic collapse.

“I just want to see Venezuela straightened out. I want the people to be safe. We’re going to take care of Venezuela,” Mr. Trump said. “What is happening in Venezuela is a disgrace.”

He made the remarks to reporters as he arrived at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Mr. Trump also said he was willing to meet with Mr. Maduro, saying he would get involved “anytime I can save lives and help people.”
