U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley took up a megaphone and cheered Venezuelan protesters Thursday who were calling for the removal of President Nicolas Maduro.

“We are going to fight for Venezuela, and we are going to continue doing it until Maduro is gone!” Ms. Haley said, according to a report from AFP.

The ambassador emphasized that the U.S. stood with them in their fight against Mr. Maduro, and urged them to “keep your voices loud.”

The U.S. ramped up the pressure on the socialist Venezuelan government this week during the U.N. General Assembly.

President Trump called for other member states to join the U.S. in supporting a “restoration of democracy” in the struggling nation, and then later mocked the Venezuelan military for “running for cover” after a drone bomb went off at a recent public event.

The U.S. government also slapped sanctions on several top officials in the Venezuelan government, including Mr. Maduro’s wife Cilia Flores.
