SELIGMAN, Ariz. (AP) - Yavapai County authorities say a motorcyclist has died in a collision with a three-wheel ATV.

They say 46-year-old John Johnson of Seligman in northwestern Arizona was declared dead at the scene.

Witnesses told county sheriff’s deputies that two drivers were racing on a road Sunday night and were preparing for another race before the fatal collision.

They say Johnson was driving his 100cc motorcycle at about 50 mph (80 kph) when he collided with the driver of the ATV.

The vehicles did not have headlamps or stop signal lamps, and nether driver was wearing a helmet.

The injured 29-year-old ATV driver was taken to a Flagstaff hospital.

Sheriff’s officials say alcohol use is believed to have been a contributing factor in the collision, which remains under investigation.
