Alex Ovechkin is known for his goal-scoring, but he can drop the gloves, too.

Ovechkin pummeled Carolina Hurricanes rookie Andrei Svechnikov in the first period of Game 3 of the Washington Capitals’ first-round series Monday night, knocking Svechnikov out of the game.

Ovechkin apparently had had enough of Russian countryman Svechnikov, who was bumping and baiting the Washington captain and made the first shove.

Soon as they agreed to a proper fight, Ovechkin dropped his gloves and had both his hands at Svechnikov’s neck before the 2018 No. 2 overall draft pick could react. A few quick right hooks later, Svechnikov was flat on his back.

Watch the full development here:

Both players received five-minute penalties for fighting, but Svechnikov was helped to Carolina’s locker room and was ruled out with an upper-body injury.

This was Ovechkin’s first fight since 2010 and the fourth of his career, according to hockeyfights.com.
