NEW YORK (AP) - The sentencing of a man convicted in the death of a New York City runner has been postponed while defense attorneys try to get the verdict set aside.
Chanel (shuh-NEHL’) Lewis was scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday in the 2016 death of Karina Vetrano in Queens.
Defense lawyer Robert Moeller said an affidavit from a juror alleges unspecified misconduct during deliberations.
Assistant District Attorney Brad Leventhal said he’s confident the verdict will stand up under any additional scrutiny.
If the judge upholds the verdict at a Monday hearing, the sentencing would occur on Tuesday.
Some supporters chanted “Justice for Chanel!” as the defendant was led out of the courtroom on Wednesday.
According to the Daily News , Justice Michael Aloise responded: “Shut them up!”
