LOS ANGELES (AP) - A gang member convicted of shooting a homeless man on the Venice Beach boardwalk has been sentenced to 93 years to life in prison.

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office says 32-year-old Francisco Guzman was sentenced Wednesday following his conviction for first-degree murder and other charges.

Prosecutors say Guzman opened fire during an argument with a group of homeless people near Ocean Front Walk in 2015. He killed 26-year-old Jascent Warren.

The Los Angeles Times says witnesses reported Warren had been trying to ease tensions during an argument between a hotel owner and another homeless man when Guzman walked up with a gun.

The hotel owner, Sris Sinnathamby, was arrested and later charged with murder for allegedly aiding and directing the shooter but the case against him was dismissed.
