MOULTON, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama man in custody is accused of trying to solicit the murder of someone to damage a rape and incest case in which he is charged.

Al.com reports 42-year-old Kenneth Ray McDonald of Hillsboro, Alabama, an inmate at the Lawrence County jail, is accused of asking a confidential informant to murder a woman in an attempt to affect his pending case.

Lt. Chris Waldrep, in a news release, says McDonald was being held on $870,000 bail on multiple charges of rape, incest, sodomy and willful abuse and torture of a child. He now also faces a solicitation of murder charge that carries a sentence of up to life in prison if convicted. His bond was increased to $930,000.

Attempts to reach an attorney for McDonald weren’t immediately successful.
