One pilot is dead and a second pilot is hospitalized following separate plane crashes in North Carolina.

The Record & Landmark reports Statesville Regional Airport Manager John Ferguson says the plane, which was based in Statesville, crashed in Rowan County on Monday.

Statesville police said the department received a call around 9 a.m. Monday that a plane left for Twin Lakes Airport in Davie County and did not arrive there as scheduled.

In Onslow County, an experimental plane crashed nose down at Holly Ridge/Topsail Island Airport around 3 p.m. on Monday.

WITN-TV reports Robert Barrows of Fincastle, Virginia, was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Col. Chris Thomas of the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office said Barrows had an apparent injury to his leg or foot.
