IPSWICH, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts man has died after the car he was working on slipped off its jack and crushed him.

The Salem News reports that 45-year-old Steward Rudnicki was working on his Volvo at his home in Ipswich on Tuesday night when he was crushed.

Officers who arrived at the scene pulled him from beneath his car and started emergency treatment. Rudnicki was later taken to Beverly Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

A police investigation is ongoing. However, police Chief Paul Nikas says all indications show Rudnicki’s death was a “tragic accident.”
