LAS VEGAS (AP) - Prosecutors told a judge that a retired Las Vegas police detective accused of shooting her former son-in-law dead in her home poses a threat to the man’s family and shouldn’t be freed on bail.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that friends and relatives of the slain man, 32-year-old Sean Babbitt, filled a Las Vegas courtroom Tuesday while Pamela Bordeaux’s defense attorneys argued she retired with an exemplary record as a police officer and poses no danger to the community.
Justice of the Peace Joe M. Bonaventure ordered the 55-year-old Bordeaux to remain jailed without bail pending a preliminary hearing May 21.
Prosecutors notified Bordeaux’s attorneys the case may be presented to a grand jury before that time.
Defense attorney Robert Draskovich has said Bordeaux feared Babbitt posed a threat to her and her family, and the shooting was reasonable under the circumstances.
