PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - State wildlife officials say dogs killed 41 ewes and newborn lambs at a farm in western Oregon.

The Oregonian/OregonLive reports Oregon State Police have launched an investigation after the dead sheep were discovered Tuesday at the farm near Eugene.

State Department of Fish and Wildlife spokeswoman Michelle Dennehy says dog tracks in two different sizes were found at the scene of the attack, implicating at least two dogs.

Dennehy says wildlife officials in Lane County might get one or two reports each year of dogs attacking livestock, but a killing of this size is uncommon.

Oregon State Police Capt. Tim Fox says the dogs responsible for the attack have not been found as of Wednesday.
