INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A 61-year-old man has been convicted in the 1998 rape and murder of an Indianapolis woman whose body was found partially burned inside a home.

Kenya Edwards’ killing had remained a cold case until DNA from evidence collected from the 26-year-old woman’s body was matched to Johnny Jones in 2015.

A Marion County jury convicted Jones of sexual assault and murder on Wednesday. His sentencing is scheduled for April 26.

Police found Edwards’ partially burned body inside a home on Indianapolis’ east side in November 1998. Her wrists and legs were bound with electrical cords and officers found signs of a struggle inside of the home and a broken window in the rear of the residence.

An autopsy determined that Edwards had died from thermal burns and smoke inhalation.
