IUKA, Miss. (AP) - The search has ended for a Mississippi inmate who walked away from a work detail in Tishomingo County.

WTVA-TV reports Sheriff John Daugherty says 35-year-old Stephen Edward Hancock was captured Friday around 7 p.m. in Colbert County, Alabama which is about 40 miles away.

He’s expected to waive extradition to return to Mississippi to face escape charges.

Hancock was with a road crew picking up trash off the side of County Road 958, which is above Highway 30 near the state line. Daugherty says corrections officers saw Hancock run into nearby woods.

Hancock had been held in the county jail on a domestic violence charge.
