ATLANTA (AP) - President Donald Trump wants a former federal prosecutor to fill a vacant judge’s position in Georgia.

The White House said in a news release Trump plans to nominate Steven D. Grimberg of Atlanta to serve as a U.S. District Court judge in the Northern District of Georgia.

Grimberg is a former assistant U.S. attorney in Atlanta who now works as managing director and general counsel of the global investigations firm Nardello & Co. As a federal prosecutor he focused on white-collar crimes and led a cybercrime unit.

Grimberg’s nomination must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

Republican Sen. David Perdue of Georgia praised the nomination as “an excellent choice.”
