RENO, Nev. (AP) - Sheriff’s deputies have charged a 36-year-old Washoe County jail inmate with murder in a stabbing in Wadsworth in November.

The sheriff’s office said Tuesday Clayton Davis is now accused of killing 58-year-old John Whitaker of Olinghouse.

Washoe County deputies and Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribal police found Whitaker with fatal stab wounds outside a home when they responded to the scene Nov. 27.

They recently identified Davis as a suspect and formally charged him Monday with open murder and burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon.

The sheriff’s office says Davis has been in the county jail on unrelated charges since early December 2018.

It’s not clear if he has a lawyer or will be appointed one at his initial appearance in Reno Justice Court on April 17. His cash-only bail has been raised to $100,000.
