HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - The police chief of a West Virginia city has been named the city’s new manager.

Huntington Mayor Steve Williams on Monday appointed Chief Hank Dial to the role, which he’s set to start next week, news outlets report. The move comes with a roughly $8,000 pay bump, putting his new annual salary at about $94,000.

Dial is replacing former city manager Cathy Burns, who stepped down in July to serve as the executive director of the Huntington Municipal Development Authority. He has been with the police department for 28 years and has been chief since mid-2018. During his tenure there, he oversaw the department’s budget and grants and worked to increase community engagement, according to a city statement.

Police Capt. Ray Cornwell is expected to serve as interim police chief.
