PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island man found to have a gun, crack cocaine and pot in his car when he was pulled over for failing to use a turn signal has been sentenced to six years in prison, federal prosecutors said Thursday.
Scott Arnum, 30, of Providence, was stopped by Pawtucket police in September 2017 after he failed to use his signal and his vehicle stopped short in front of a police cruiser, prosecutors said.
The officer who pulled him over noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Arnum got out of the vehicle as requested, and officers discovered a large bag of marijuana and six bags of crack cocaine inside his clothing. A seventh bag fell out of Arnum’s underwear after he was taken to the police station. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a loaded 9 mm pistol and two magazines.
Because he had previously been convicted of drug charges, he was not allowed to have the gun.
He pleaded guilty in September to several charges.
