PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island man who arranged to meet who he thought was a 14-year-old boy for a sexual encounter has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Federal prosecutors say 27-year-old Dylan Harris, of West Warwick, was sentenced Monday.
Authorities say in January 2017 he engaged sexually explicit online communications with someone he thought he was a 14-year-old boy but was really an undercover officer.
They say Harris arranged to meet the person in a secluded Warwick park. When police activated their lights and sirens, he sped away and at one point turned his vehicle in the direction of a police detective, narrowly missing him and causing the detective to leap aside.
Harris pleaded guilty in June to attempted inducement of a minor to engage in illicit sexual activity.
