ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A 17-year-old charged in a deadly Thanksgiving shooting in Virginia has been caught by authorities in North Carolina.
Citing a Fairfax County police statement, news outlets report the teen was arrested Friday in Buncombe County, North Carolina, on charges of murder and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. Authorities didn’t immediately release his identity.
The teen is accused of shooting 30-year-old Ever Deras-Borjas, of Springfield, on Thursday. Deras-Borjas’ official cause of death is pending an autopsy. Authorities said the shooting wasn’t believed to be a random act of violence. They later learned the suspect may have fled to North Carolina.
Police say the teen will remain in the custody of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office pending extradition to Virginia. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
