BRISTOL, Vt. (AP) -
Vermont State Police on Thursday released the names of the two troopers who were involved in a Bristol shooting
Troopers Robert Helm and Matthew Hood, who are both assigned to the New Haven Barracks, fired their service rifles multiple times, hitting Greg West, police said.
West, 28, was hospitalized in critical condition.
Bristol police Officer Jori Fairbanks was at the scene, too, but did not fire her weapon.
The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. Tuesday after relatives reported West was intoxicated, armed with a shotgun and making threats. Police say West was shot after ignoring repeated commands to drop the shotgun. He hasn’t been charged with a crime.
Helm and Hood were placed on paid administrative leave after the shooting, as is routine in police shooting cases.
The investigation is continuing.
