RICHMOND, R.I. (AP) - A judge upheld a finding that a former Rhode Island high school teacher should be classified as a sex offender.

Judge Netti Vogel agreed with a Superior Court judge’s ruling on Thursday that former Chariho Regional High School coach Glen Matteson, 59, should be listed as a Level III sex offender, according to the Providence Journal.

The ruling upheld the classification that Matteson poses a high risk to re-offend and sparks public notice of his presence in Richmond.

The soccer coach was arrested in February 2013 and charged with indecent solicitation of a child and possession of child pornography after he sent inappropriate text messages to a 15-year-old player on the team and tried to solicit an undercover detective posing as a juvenile.

Police were first alerted of the case after the victim’s father told police that Matteson had written inappropriate texts to his son.

Matteson pleaded no content to indecent solicitation and received a five-year sentence.
