CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A man who crashed his vehicle into a utility pole in suburban Detroit was charged Monday in the death of his 7-year-old son.
Police said Arturo Molina Mendez had been drinking before the weekend crash in Macomb County. He’s charged with operating while intoxicated causing death.
The boy, who was in the back seat, was declared dead at a hospital.
It wasn’t immediately known if Mendez has a lawyer who could comment. He’s due in court Monday.
“The loss of a child is perhaps the most painful occurrence a parent can experience,” prosecutor Eric Smith said. “However, the grief this father is dealing with does not diminish his responsibility in this case.”
