MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Officials say several appeals filed by opponents of a proposed parking garage in Vermont’s capital city may kill the project.

The Times Argus reports the group Friends of Montpelier has cited at least 20 issues related to the local approval process in their appeals to the Environmental Court.

City Manager Bill Fraser says the appeal sets up an expensive and extended legal process, and any delay places the garage and a related hotel project at risk.

Attorney James Dumont who filed the appeals denies they were meant to delay the projects. He says his clients feel the Development Review Board failed to address necessary issues.

The planned garage is part of an 81-room hotel project.

Fraser says he hopes to meet with appellants soon to discuss their concerns.
