MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Gun rights activists are scheduled to be in court this week, arguing Vermont’s ban on high-capacity magazines violates the state Constitution.

The lawsuit was filed soon after Vermont’s ban on magazines took effect last year, and argues the ban violates Article 16 - which provides the right to have a gun for self-defense. WCAX-TV reports the activists will be in court Tuesday in Montpelier.

Constitutional law expert Dan Richardson says it will be tough to find the restriction unconstitutional.

If the Vermont Supreme Court rules in favor of the ban, advocates could appeal to federal courts.
