Former Washington Nationals pitcher Shawn Kelley told reporters at Texas Rangers’ spring training on Wednesday that he talked to Bryce Harper recently, and found out that the market for the free agent superstar is “slower than you guys think it is.”

Kelley played with Harper in Washington for parts of three seasons. But last season, the Nationals designated Kelley for assignment as punishment for his “outburst” over allowing a home run in a game the Nationals won, 25-4.

But Kelley still keeps in touch with Harper. Kelley joined the Rangers in the offseason as a free agent.

Harper has recently had meetings with the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres. Bob Nightengale of USA Today recently said he predicts the sweepstakes is down to the Giants and Philadelphia Phillies, while Jim Duquette, a host for MLB Network Radio, thinks the Nationals have the inside track to bring Harper back to the District.
