BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota’s House has passed a measure that makes it illegal to pass a pet off as a service animal.
Representatives voted 84-5 on Friday to approve the measure that would levy a fine of up to $100 for falsely claiming a pet as a service animal to “gain admission to a public place” or obtain housing.
The legislation does not include emotional support animals.
Jamestown Rep. Bernie Satrom says his bill is aimed at protecting disabled people who truly rely on service animals.
