ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) - A man who allegedly attacked and robbed a pregnant New Jersey Transit bus driver while she was on duty last month is now facing charges.

Union County prosecutors say Andre Dawson III is charged with robbery, assault and assault on a bus operator.

The attack occurred Jan. 28 in Elizabeth. Police officers responding to a reported assault found the driver had been robbed of her cell phone and suffered with bumps, cuts and bruises. She was treated at a hospital for her injuries.

Authorities say the attacker fled before officers arrived. But investigators identified Dawson as the suspect and arrested him Wednesday. The 29-year-old Union Township man faces up to 20 years in prison if he’s convicted on all charges.

It wasn’t known Friday if Dawson has retained an attorney.

This story has been corrected to show Dawson is 29 years old, not 39, as per prosecutors.
