ATHENS, Tenn. (AP) - Police in Tennessee say a man has died after trying to save a woman who had walked into deep water outside a home.

McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy says in a statement the man was found unresponsive Sunday.

Guy says the woman had been using methamphetamine at a residence and walked out of the house. The man followed her and tried to get her out of the water. Two fire departments, sheriff’s deputies and emergency services crews were notified that the pair was in the water.



The woman was treated at a hospital.

The victim’s name wasn’t immediately released. Guy says the incident remains under investigation.
